History of the School

   Between song and Yuan Dynasties, there were two schools in Jinhua called Li Ze and Cong Zheng respectively. At the beginning of Qing Dynasty, the two schools were combined into one, named Li Zheng. In 1902, it was changed and named Jinhua Middle School, which was the beginning of the present school. In 1912, the school was named No.7 Middle School of Zhejiang Province. In 1923, No.7 teachers’ Training College merged in and the school was divided into three parts, a middle school, a teachers’ training college and a primary school. In 1926, the school was named No.7 Middle School of Zhejiang Province. In August 1933, the school got its name Jinhua Middle School of Zhejiang. Owing to the Anti-Japanese War, the school had to be moved many times to such places as Changgeng, Putang, Cangshanling, Shannan, Lingshang Temple of Jinhua, Yuyuan of Wuyi and Jinzhu of Jingyun. In February 1940, the teachers’ training college was separated. In November 1946, the school was moved back to Gulouli in downtown. In 1953, its junior middle school was attributed to Jinhua No.2 Middle School, and the school totally became a senior high school with the name Jinhua No.1 High School. In October 1958, the school was moved to Jiang tang in the countryside. In March 1963, the school was acknowledged as one of the first provincial key schools by the government of Zhejiang Province. Between 1966 and 1968, the school stopped its enrolment. In 1970, the school was named “May 7th School for Workers, Peasants & Soldiers”. In 1973, it was named No.1 Middle School of Jinhua County. In April 1981, the school was acknowledged as one of the eighteen provincial key schools. In July 1985, the school got its present name Jinhua No.1 High School of Zhejiang. In September 1988, the municipal government decided to move the school back to the city and the new school began to enroll students in August 1993. In 1995, the school was evaluated as a first-rate key school of Zhejiang Province and thus it became one of the fourteen first-rate provincial key schools. The whole school was moved to the present location in 1995.
