JinHua No.1 High School of Zhejiang,founded in 1902,is a century-old
school with many talents.Since its foundation,it has experienced
a variety of ups and downs.It was originally located in Jiufang
Lane of Jinhua but during the Anti-Japanese War,it had to be
moved, in succession, to the countryside and mountains like
Lipu,Yuyuan and Jingyun.
In 1958,it was moved to Jiangtang a small town in the country
for a new start .In 1993,it was moved back to the present location.In
its centennial history, it has graduated 33 thousand students,
over 3000 of whom have become experts, scholars and professors,
such as Shao Piaoping(founder of Chinese journalism),Ai Qing
(great poet),Wu Han(world-famous historian),Chen Wangdao(first
translator of “The Communist Manifesto” and famous educator),Qian
Jiaju (famous economist),Zhang Shuyi(famous artist), feng Xuefeng
(famous theoretician of Marxism and Leninism),and so on while
17 of whom have become committee members of the Science Academy
of China, academicians of the Science Academy of China and the
Engineering Academy of China.
During the early period, talents like Shao Piaoping and Jin
Zhaozi worked as teachers in this school and Fang Hao, the famous
educator, had been principal for a long time. At that time,
the school was one of the top schools in the province with its
great education achievements.
After the People’s Republic of China was founded, the school
administration carried out a policy of teaching students morally,
intellectually and physically. In the 1960s, Principal Wang
Zongyuan conducted a teaching gist of” Accuracy, Correctness,
Comprehension and Competence”. It was then a fashion on campus
to work hard, live precisely and learn diligently. From 1960
to 1962, students came out first in the province, in a row,
in the National College Entrance Examinations, which shocked
the whole province and impressed the whole nation.
Since the China's openning policy was carried out, both the
school authority and teachers have been attaching importance
to modern teaching ideas, carrying forward quality-oriented
education and conducting teaching innovation. All these have
made the school in the lead in education in the province. In
1995, it was acknowledged as the First-rate Provincial Key School
and later the Provincial Experimental School of Modern Educational
Technology, the Experimental School of English Language Teaching
of the Teaching &Researching Institute of China, and the
State-level Training Vase for key teachers of middles schools
and primary schools. On May 25th, 1999, “China Education Daily”
published, on the front page, the news repercussions in the
field of education across the country. And this project won
the first prize as an excellent result of teaching and scientific
research in Zhejiang province.
The present school, located at 301 Bayi South Street in Jiangnan
Development Zone, covers an area of over 56 thousand square
meters teaching 1750 students in 30 classes. In order to be
in keeping with the strategic decision of making Jinhua the
central city in the Mid-west of the province, the municipal
government has decided to build a completely new school at a
new place for NO 1. High School so that it can give full play
as a famous key school. By then, a large modernized brand-new
school, covering an area of over 4.23 hectare, will stand, with
its high level and good quality, by the Wujiang River. |
